The problem is, whether premium or free, we still get infected by viruses. How effective are antivirus software?
Antivirus software is a computer program used in detecting, preventing and removing malicious software or any form of cybercriminal tactics. A successful cyber attack on any computer can destroy everything. An antivirus software is like a Go-To problem solver to fight such attacks. Like the name implies, an antivirus is developed to detect and remove viruses.
Antivirus programs often updated because every software comes with a database of known viruses or malware. It is advisable to update your database frequently because it goes a long way to keeping you secure online. However, recent cyber attacks have called for concern over the effectiveness of antivirus software. The programs are not very effective against new viruses. This is because malware/virus coders or designers test their new viruses on top antivirus programs to make sure are undetected before releasing them.
Malicious programs like rootkits are very difficult for antivirus programs to detect. Rootkit have the ability to modify the internal process of an operating system. And antivirus application doesn’t fully protect you. Security experts recommend installing an internet firewall as well.
Apart from being sometimes played by malware, antivirus program slows down a computer or network. The software use up a lot of space on our hard disk or computer memory. This thereby causes lag in the user of a computer or network.
